Fall Burlap Wreath

    Gosh! I can't believe that the last time I posted on my blog was 2015! Time has slipped away, and my life has been an utter whirlwind! My family and I have gone through some major changes in our lives and for the last four years we have been trying to catch our breath and make sense of things.... Sadly, during this time I haven't had energy or motivation to do much painting or crafting. I have felt like I have been just going through the motions of life to just survive. Do you ever feel that way? It is a lonely feeling. Fortunately, I'm learning to put one put in front of the other and to move forward in a positive way.

    Last year I did get a little boost of energy to do a burlap wreath! It turned out cute and was super easy to make. I used a grapevine wreath and pipe cleaners for my base. Next, I cut burlap ribbon into squares that I secured with the pipe cleaners onto the wreath. I also bought artificial flowers from Hobby Lobby to add a touch of color! 

    With help from my friends and loved ones and returning to the little things that I enjoy doing in my spare time, I am again feeling that I have meaning and purpose. Hope this wreath inspires you to keep working through your struggles! Just put one foot in front of the other, Friends!.

Time for a new wreath!

It's that time of year again! Time for a new Christmas wreath. 

My mom and I decided to make a Christmas ornament wreath. It turned out super classy!

We used a straw wreath form, metallic garland, small 

and large shatter proof Christmas ornaments, wired ribbon, and hot glue.

 We used these floral pins to attach the garland and ribbon to the wreath form.

A Little Wreath

This is just a quick post. I seem to have less and less time lately, but I somehow managed to make a cute little wreath! It cost about $7.00 to make. I went to the Dollar Tree and bought a small floral ring that I used as the base for my wreath. Next,
I wrapped it with burlap ribbon. While I was doing that I tea stained 2 packs of coffee filters that I got from the Dollar Tree.Once those were dry ( I gave them a little help with the hair dryer), I hot glued them around my wreath. I started on the top outside edge and stopped once I got about halfway across the front. I stopped there because I wanted the burlap to show on the finished wreath. Take a look..I think it turned out super cute!

More Book Page Wreathes

My sisters and I got together over Thanksgiving break and made 

Christmas book page wreathes! We had a wonderful time eating, visiting, 

and crafting.The inspiration for these wreathes came from the link below.

It takes about 4-5 hours to make one book page wreath, 

but I think it is time well spent!

We also ate pesto pizza and wedge salads. 

Yummy! Dunmore enjoyed the crust! I got a photo

 of the salad, but forgot the pizza. Darn!

For this wreath, we made lots and lots of cones 

from the pages of old books. We also did lots of

 measuring, stapling, gluing, and laughing! In the 

photo above you can see our cones. My sister's 

book was quite a bit older than mine, so her pages 

are a lot darker. Her cones were also a lot more

 fragile. Keep that in mind if you end up trying

 to make one of these. Anyway, I love both looks. 

Book page wreathes bring a certain character

 to your home that other wreathes don't have.

 Plus you are up-cycling something old.

In the background you can see the one that I 

made several years ago. It still looks great! 

AND would you look at how cute Lord Dunmore is! 

I sure do love that dog!

Another DYI Book Page Wreath!

I was looking through some old craft photos and found a picture of another version of a book page wreath that I made. It is actually the one that I used in a give away last year. I completely forgot to post it! This one is made the same way except I rolled the pages into cone shapes instead.  Still super easy though. You can get so many different looks just by the way you fold your paper. I've actually made 3 of these because they are that easy and super cute!.

Supplies: styrofoam wreath form (any size), stick pins, old book, 2-3 spools of ribbon.

First, wrap your wreath with ribbon and secure with stick pins. Be sure to overlap the ribbon slightly as you wrap it.

Carefully tear or cut out your pages from your book. 

For a large wreath you need about 200 pages for it to be full.

Decide how you want to fold your paper.

 For example you might bunch it, roll it, or trifold it. Experiment a little first.

Starting with the outer edge, pin each page with one or two stick pins. 

Overlap each row that you pin and before you know it you have your very own book page wreath!

Fabric Wreathes

A gal that I teach with made some cute fabric wreathes for her family this Christmas. I thought they were super cute! So I headed to Micheal's craft store the next day which also happened to be CHRISTMAS EVE to gather my supplies!!  That's what I call "cuttin" it close!

Supplies 

styrofoam wreath form 

stick pins

3 - 4 rolls of ribbon depending on the size wreath you buy

Felt

scissors

glue sticks/hot glue gun/Elmer's glue

Step 1:  Secure your ribbon to the wreath with 3 stick pins. 

Wrap your wreath with ribbon. As you wrap it carefully overlap

 edges just a bit. Secure the end with 3 more stick pins. 

I always fold the ends under before I  pin it because I feel

 like it makes it look neater. Continue this process until the 

whole wreath is covered with the ribbon.

I used an 18 inch wreath.

Step 2: Next use stick pins to secure felt  flowers.
